Short Bio

Leora Cashe – Jazz Vocalist | Recording Artist | Storyteller

After a recording hiatus that followed her acclaimed tribute release Another Side Now: The Songs of Joni Mitchell, Vancouver jazz vocalist Leora Cashe makes her highly anticipated return with Brand New Day, a deeply personal and powerfully expressive new album that reaffirms her place among Canada’s most soulful and sophisticated voices. Recorded in Vancouver at Monarch Studios, the album radiates with original compositions along with beautifully re-imagined classics.

Leora is celebrated for her rich, soul- infused voice that moves fluidly between jazz, gospel, blues and folk traditions. Her vocal style evokes the swingin' sparkle of Ella Fitzgerald, the sophistication of Joni Mitchell, and the raw intimacy of Eva Cassidy, at once timeless and contemporary. With refined phrasing and emotional clarity, Leora transforms each lyric into a lived experience, delivering genre-spanning interpretations marked by depth, nuance, and an unmistakably heartfelt presence.

Her discography includes two celebrated gospel albums, Tears of Joy (a West Coast Music Award nominee) and Inspiration, alongside two jazz recordings: My Heart Stood Still and her re-imaginings of Joni Mitchell’s early folk catalogue, Another Side Now, featuring the late and well loved pianist / saxophonist Ross Taggart.

A consummate live performer, Leora has toured internationally in Italy, Belgium, and the UK, and has shared stages with Canadian music luminaries Dee Daniels, Denzal Sinclaire, Jim Byrnes, Shari Ulrich, and the legendary Tommy Banks. She also had the honour of opening for jazz saxophone great Stanley Turrentine at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Brand New Day, co-produced with her husband and longtime musical partner Jaye Krebs, marks an exhilarating new chapter in Leora’s career. It features an exceptional ensemble of Canadian jazz stalwarts; the sensitive, deep-swinging touch of pianist Miles Black, the boundless groove of bassist Conrad Good, and the dynamic driving swing of drummer Julian MacDonough. Their collective chemistry elevates Leora’s expressive vocals into an emotionally rich soundscape.

Beyond the stage, Leora has spent nearly two decades nurturing the next generation of musicians as an educator in the Music for Young Children program. For her, music is more than an art; it is a spiritual calling, a lifelong journey of connection, and an ever-evolving conversation with the world.

With
Brand New Day, Leora Cashe welcomes listeners into a world of vulnerability, hope, and heartfelt expression; a voice returning with depth, purpose, and renewed creative fire.
